Abstract Purpose:To review case of infectious keratitis encountered at Matsue Red Cross Hospital between 2011 and 2021.

Cases:This retrospective study included 107 eyes of 106 patients(average 57.9±24.1 years)with infectious keratitis. Patients with herpetic keratitis were excluded.

Results:Causative organisms were detected in 56 of the 106 patients(52.8%). They comprised gram-positive cocci(39.3%), gram-negative bacilli(21.4%), fungi(3.6%)and others(35.7%). Age distribution pattern demonstrated 2 peaks in the 20-30 year age group and in the 70 year age group. The peak at 70 years was higher than that in the 20-30 year peak. In the 20 year age group, the percentage of contact lens users was very high(92.3%). Diabetes mellitus 23 cases and trauma 16 cases were common predisposing factors. New quinolone eye drops, cefmenoxime eye drops, and intravenous carbapenem antibiotics were widely used as therapeutic drugs.

Conclusion:Gram-positive cocci were the most frequent causative agents. Moraxella keratitis was more common as a lot of elderly patients with systemic diseases visit our hospital.
