Abstract Purpose:To report a case of scleroderma with uveitis in a male patient who underwent cataract surgery

Case:A 69-year-old man with scleroderma and uveitis underwent cataract surgery for both eyes. He was diagnosed with scleroderma at the age of 57 years.

Finds and clinical courses:At the age of 57 years, both eyes showed signs of uveitis and secondary glaucoma. Uveitis and ocular hypertension subsided after treatment with steroid eye drops. Preoperative visual acuity was 0.7 in the right eye and 0.6 in the left eye. At the age of 69 years, he underwent phacoemulsification-aspiration with intraocular lens implantation in both eyes. Both eyes were free of intra or postoperative complications. Best-corrected visual acuity was 1.2 in both eyes postoperatively.

Conclusion:In the short term, bilateral cataract surgery is a complication-free procedure to treat scleroderma, uveitis, and ocular hypertension.
