Abstract Purpose:To report short term outcomes in glaucoma patients who underwent Ahmed glaucoma valve(AGV)implantation surgery.

Subjects and Method:This study included 36 eyes of 32 patients who were followed-up for more than 1 year after the AGV implantation. There were 26 eyes with neovascular glaucoma, 6 with secondary glaucoma and 4 with primary open angle glaucoma. The pre- and post-operative intraocular pressure(IOP), medication score and complications were evaluated.

Results:The mean IOPs were reduced from 31.9±15.0 pre-operatively to 16.8±6.5 mmHg at 1 year post-operatively. Medication scores were decreased from 3.5±1.5 pre-operatively to 1.5±1.4 at 1 year post-operatively. Post-operative complications included plate exposure in 6(17%), vitreous hemorrhage in 4(11%), high IOP in 3(8%), and hyphema in 2(6%)of the patients.

Conclusion:The short-term results showed that both IOP and medication scores improved post-operatively. However, frequent occurence of plate exposure suggests that careful observation is necessary after AGV implantation surgeries.
