Abstract Purpose:To report a case of pterygium that recurred 10 times after subsequent surgeries.

Case:A 54-year-old male was referred to us for pterygium in the right eye. He had received 5 surgeries in 2 clinics in the past 5 years.

Findings and Clinical Course:Corrected visual acuity was 0.3 right and 0.8 left. He received excision of pterygium in the right eye followed by conjunctival autograft. Pterygium recurred 3 years later. It was resected by us with intraoperative mitomycin C. It recurred twice after consecutive surgeries. As the fifth surgical intervention by us, cure for 18 months resulted after excision, inverse suture to the sclera, conjunctival autograft transplantation, and application of mitomycin C. Visual acuity stabilized now at 0.7 right.

Conclusion:After a total of 9 surgeries with recurrences of pterygium, lasting cure for 18 months was obtained after excision, conjunctival autograft transplantation, inverse suture to the sclera, and application of mitomycin C.
