Abstract Purpose:To report the short-term outcome of iMics1(MP70), a new intraocular lens(IOP)to be implanted in the bag and to be fixated intrasclerally.

Method:Twenty-two eyes received cataract surgery with implantation of MP70. Visual acuity and refraction were evaluated one month after surgery. The findings were compared with those of 22 eyes that received in-the-bag implantation of XY1. Another series of 11 eyes received in-the-bag fixation of XP70. The findings were compared with those of 11 eyes that received implantation of NX-70.

Results:No significant difference was present in visual acuity and refraction between eyes that received in-the-bag implantation of MP70 and XY1. While no significant difference was present in refractive error or anterior chamber depth between eyes that received intrascleral fixation of MP70 and NX-70, eyes implanted with MP70 showed a tendency towards hypermetropia and deeper anterior chamber.

Conclusion:In-the-bag implantation of MP70 showed a good postoperative outcome. Tendency of sclerally fixated MP70 may be related to deeper anterior chamber. MP70 is to be regarded as useful for intrascleral fixation because of distinctive shape of the haptic.
