Abstract Purpose:To report a case of exotropia who was tested perimetry by imo® to quantitatively evaluate suppression of exotropia.

Case:A 59-year-old male presented with exotropia by 20 prism diopters. He had received bilateral recession of lateral rectus muscle 4 years before and bilateral resection of medial rectus muscle 2 years before. Corrected visual acuity was 1.5 in either eye. He had no diplopia but presented suppression. He was tested regarding the sensitivity of exotropia by imo® with one eye occluded and with both eyes open.

Results:Sensitivity of the area corresponding to the fovea and the zero measure point of the deviating eye was 28.6 dB when the fellow was occluded and 21.9 dB when both eyes were open. Sensitivity under binocular condition was lower by 6.7 dB than when the fellow eye was occluded.

Conclusion:Decreased sensitivity of the fovea when both eyes were open shows that suppression is pre-sent in the exotropic eye. This finding also shows that imo® may be useful in quantitative evaluation of suppression in general.
