Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of surgery for sensory exotropia. Cases:This retrospective study was made on 18 patients who received surgery for sensory exotropia during the past 8 years. The series comprised 13 males and 5 females. The age ranged from 21 to 62 years,average 37 years. Visual acuity in the affected eye ranged from 0 to 0.4. The eye position ranged from 20 to 70 prism diopters(PD). Results:Eye position one week after surgery ranged from orthotropia to 35 PD. All patients reported cosmetic satisfaction. Eight patients could be examined one year after surgery. The eye position returned by an average of 6.9 PD one year after surgery. Conclusion:Surgery is recommended for sensory exotropia in order to improve eye position.
