  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We evaluated the lymphocyte subsets in the vitreous and peripheral blood in 4 patients with uveitis. The vitreous sample was obtained during vitrectomy. We employed reactivity with mono-clonal antibodies to the surface antigens of OKT3+, OKT4+, OKT8+ and OKTal+.

Lymphocyte subsets in the vitreous correlated well with those in peripheral blood in a case withBehçet disease and macular hole and in another with Behçet disease and retinal detachment. No correlation was present between lymphocyte sub-sets in the vitreous and the peripheral blood in a case with pan-uveitis and severe vitreous opacity and in another with pan-uveitis and rheg-matogenous retinal detachment. Throughout the present series, cells in the vitreous were mainly lymphocytes. The findings indicated that the degree of disturbances in the blood-ocular barrier affected the lymphocyte subsets in the vitreous.
