  • Look Inside

We evaluated 411 congenital color defective subjects with the classification plates of Standard Pseudoisochromatic Plates Part 1.

An overwhelming majority of cases (97.6%) were classified correctly as to the type of color defective-ness. The rate of correct classification was 100% in protanopes, 91% in protanomalies, 99.3% in deu-teranopes and 87.2% in deuteranomalies. Discre-pancy in classification with our method and anomalo-scope occurred in one case (2.3%) with protano-malyand 3 case (1.7%) with deuteranomaly. Such discrepancies occurred only in mild cases.

Protans were thus classified almost perfectly with each of the 5 plates. For deutans, only 3 plates showed high reliability as to classification. The findings indicate that the five classification plates in Standard Pseudoisochromatic Plates Part 1 are of sufficient clinical value when used as a group.
