  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We studied the presence and distribution of glialfibrillary acidic (GFA) protein in retinoblastoma cells in 30 eyes using peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) technique in order to elucidate the origin of retinoblastoma.

We confirmed the presence of GFA protein-posi-tive cells in the rosettes of 3 out of 10 eyes with Homer-wright rosette and in 2 out of 12 eyes with Flexner-Wintersteiner rosette formation.

Positive staining was also observed in perivascular and other glial cells : a finding which did not seem to be directly related to the tumor cells.
