  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Choroidal neovascularization occurring in sym-pathetic ophthalmia and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome was studied histopathologically. Cho-roidal neovascularization was found mostly in peripheral fundus region, where severe inflamma-tion in the choroid lasted for long period. Bruch's membrane and choriocapillaris were damaged by infiltration of inflammatory cells. The new vessels had structural features similar to those of chorio-capillaris showing numerous fenestration in the endothelium. Proliferation of the retinal pigment epithelial cells were in a close association with the choroidal neovascularization.
