We followed up 20 cases of surgically overcor-rected cases of intermittent exotropia for one year. The findings were compared with 20 undercor-rected cases of the same condition.

In the majority of overcorrected cases, the esodeviation decreased gradually to turn into or-thophoria or exophoria. A few cases turned into exodeviation in a month after surgery. Persisting esotropia resulted in 3 cases.

The magnitude of change in eye position from eso- to exodeviation following surgery was greater in overcorrected than in undercorrected group.
