  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We examined 81 patients with rheumatoid arth-ritis undergoing systemic gold salt treatment. Corneal chrysiasis was present in 30 subjects, of which 24 had been given more than 1,500 mg of gold salt as the total dosis. Gold deposits in the cornea were consistently absent in 26 subjects who were given less than 500 mg as total dosis. Out of 41 patients who were under gold salt treatment for more than 2 years, 29 manifested corneal chrysiasis. The intensity of corneal chrysiasis was positively correlated with the total dosis of gold salt and the duration of treatment.
