  • Look Inside

We evaluated the diagnostic value of ultra-sonography prior to vitreous surgery in 33 eyes with opaque vitreous and vitreous hemorrhage. With our ultrasonographic apparatus (General ZD-251), we could satisfactorily demonstrate the shape, location and extent of the vitreous opacity, the presence of vitreoretinal adhesion, preretinal pro-liferation and retinal detachment. Also, the tough-ness of the vitreous membrane and the shortening of the axial length, which are signs of phthisic globe, were detected by A-scan echography.
