We developed and applied to clinical purposes a new, high-resolution ophthalmic ultrasonic equip-ment. It features high-powered, middle-calibered focused concave transducers, a compouncd system of sector and linear scans, amplification by trans-ducers with a wide-range frequency and accessory signal processing circuits such as near gain, sensi-tivity time control and filter mechanism. Our initial clinical trials showed that the new equipment is superior to conventional ones regarding the resolu-tion, sensitivity and the gradation. It enabled the reproduction of anatomically faithful B-mode images of the eye.
