  • Look Inside

Echography is an essential diagnostic procedure in detecting and evaluating pathologic changes in the vitreous, particularly before the vitreoretinal surgery. When membrane-like structures are found in the vitreous, it is necessary to determine whether they are the detached retina or not. For the differen-tial diagnosis, quantitative echography with a standardized A-scan instrument, Kretztechnik 7200 MA, has been used with great success.

Up to date 85 eyes with a certain membrane-like structures in the vitreous, not including foreign body cases, have been examined by us on quantita-tive echography.
