  • Look Inside

Improvement effect of vitamin B12 ophthalmic solution (0.02% cyanocobalamine ophthalmic so-lution) on the accommodative function was stu-died with double blind test by using as index the results obtained from four kinds of accom-modative function tests : the repeated measure-ment of the accommodation (contraction and relaxation) time by accommodopolyrecorder, the measurement of the accommodation movement (photoelectric accoinmodogram : PEAG) and the floating accommodation (so-called "small fluctua-tion of accommodation" according to Campbell) by infrared recording optometer and the repe-ated measurement of the near-point ofac commo-dation by Ishihara's Near-Point Meter. Fourty-five patients (90 eyes) with accommodative ast-henopia served as subjects for the study and vi-tamin B12 ophthalmic solution was instilled 4 times a clay for 2 weeks. The obtained results were as follows :

1. There were no significant differences in background examination on patients' sex, age,the existence of refractive errors and initial va-lues of accommodative function tests between the two groups of vitamin B12 ophthalmic solu-tion (Group A) and placebo ophthalmic solution (Group P) each being administered at random. They were appropriate for comparative study.
