The results of some bacteriological and clinical experiments for ophthalmic use of Novo-biocin (trade name "Cathomycin") were summarized as follows.

1) Minimum growth inhibitory concentration of Novobiocin was 0.25 meg/cc for K-W bacillus, 5.0 mcg/cc for M-A bacillus, 2.5~10 mcg/cc for pneumococcus, 0.05~0.5 meg/cc for Corynebacterium diphtheriae, 5.0 mcg/cc for gonococcus, 0.5,-10 mcg/cc for streptoco-ccus, 0.25~>100 mcg/cc for staphylococcus and >100 mcg/cc for bacillus pyocyaneus.

2) Novobiocin solution was stable and the antibacterial effect was not decreased for three weeks, and decreased to 75% after six weeks in room temperature.
