This paper reports the results of surgical treatment of membraneous turbid vitreous fol-lowing vitreous hemorrhage with particular regard to echographic features. 11 cases were operated. Excision of the vitreous membrane was performed via transpupillary route (fene-stration). The decision on indication for surgery, timing and method was mainly on echographic findings.

Out of the treated 11 cases, improvement in final visual acuity resulted in 7 cases. There was no change in visual acuity in 2 cases. Phthisis resulted in 2 cases. Echography was done in the following manner prior to sur-gery :
