  • Look Inside

Cataractous crystalline lenses have been ana-lysed as to the activity of lactic dehydrogenase(LDH) and its isozyme patterns by means of agar-gel electrophoresis. The LDH activity was consistently higher in the lens than in the se-rum in the same subject. While the LDH acti-vity value in the serum lay within a certain range, the value in the cataractous lens show-ed wide fluctuations. No definite correlation was observed between the LDH value in the lens and the type or intensity of the lens opacity.

The LDH isozyme pattern of the crystalline lens showed two major peaks at LDH 3 and L DH 5 each.
