緒言

　心身障害児の福祉には多くの問題がある。そして，その解決の第一歩は，まず十分な医学的検査により障害の実態を把握することから始まることは当然のことである。重複障害の場合には，それはさらに必要なことである。

　最近，わが国では，ろう学校児童生徒に，網膜色素変性症が重複している場合の多いことがわかり，その実態調査を1969年に読売光のプレゼント協会が全国的に提唱した。大阪府下のろう学校（3校）の検診を筆者が受け持つたことを機会に，その眼科検診を単に網膜色素変性症の発見にとどまらず，種々の角度から幅広く行ない，併せて，全身的に，特に代謝面からの検査と聴力検査を実施したので，ここに報告し，また，視覚障害を伴つた聴覚障害児の今後の問題について，諸賢の御理解と御協力をあおぎたいと考える。

A report is presented over the incidence of pigmentary degeneration of the retina in deaf children in three schools for deaf children inOsaka.

A total of 914 deaf children were first scre-ened as for visual acuity in their respective schools. 432 of them were further examined fol-lowed by prescription of glasses or gudances whenever necessary. 75 children with poorly corrected vision were subjected to a more min-ute examination at the Children's Medical Cen-ter of Osaka City. Nineteen cases were diagn-osed as pigment degeneration of the retina through ophthalmological and ERG examinati-ons.
