  • Look Inside

Photocoagulation was conducted to 54 eyes in 32 cases with diabetic retinopathy of severe to moderate degrees and was followed up for 3 to 14 months.

1. An improvement in visual acuity set in 16 eyes after photocoagulation. The visual acui-ty remained stationary in 30 eyes and deterio-rated in 8 eyes. The improvement in vision paralleled that of pathological processes in the macular area.

2. Improvement in diabetic retinopathy oc-curred in 26 eyes when judged in terms of sta-ges of retinopathy (after Scott). 50% of IIIa and 40% of IIIb cases were delegated to less severe categories following the treatment.
