　全身管理の的確な70例（103眼）の増殖型網膜症に対する選択的光凝固の効果と，それに相関する眼底所見を統計的に検討し，さらにそのうち無効と判定された19眼にその後経験された光凝固無効例19眼を加えた38眼につき光凝固無効眼に共通の眼底所見を調査し次の結論を得た。

（1）選択的光凝固のみでも82％（不変29％を含む）の治療効果が得られた。

（2）乳頭に連らなる新生血管ならびに乳頭浮腫を伴う網膜症は，選択的光凝固では有意に無効となるものが多い。

（3）汎網膜光凝固を加えた光凝固療法でも無効となった症例には上記の所見を持つものが多い。

（4）網膜の広範な浮腫と静脈系の著しい拡張も，その前駆所見として警戒すべきである。

　したがって（2）（4）の所見を持つ網膜症には，早期より汎網膜光凝固を実施すべきであるが，他のものは選択的凝固のみでも十分な効果が期待できると推論した。

Follow-up results of prognosis of diabetic retino-pathy in 70 patients who attended the diabetic clinic of the Tokyo Women's Medical College regularly over more than a year and their 104 eyes with proliferative diabetic retinopathy were treated by selective direct photocoagulation, were reported. The effect of photocoagulation for pro-liferative diabetic retinopathy was judged by com-parison of color fundus photographs for over half a year after photocoagulation with the pictures just before photocoagulation. In 85 eyes, the fundus findings improved or unchanged, but aggravated fundus was observed in 19 eyes.
