Surgery of Complicated Cataract in Behçet Syndrome

緒言

　Behçet病の視力に対する予後は非常に悪く，文献的に考察すると，失明率は信州大学の後半（1958〜1966年）の77.7％を除いては30％から40％で，失明にいたる平均期間は5〜6年である^1）〜4）。

　失明の直接原因^2）4）は続発緑内障がすべての統計で一番多く，ついでブドウ膜炎，眼球癆，併発白内障の順になつており，併発白内障は失明の原因の約15％をしめている（第1,2表）。

Intracapsular cataract extraction was per-formed in 16 eyes of ten cases with the Behçet syndrome. Immunosuppressive agents (6 MP Endoxan or Imuran) had been systemically administered to lessen the frequency of hypo-pyon iritic attacks so that the operation can be performed at least one month after the last attack.

Even though the ERG was non-recordable prior to surgery, an improvement in visual a-cuity was achieved in 11 eyes. The visual a-cuity was unaffected in 3 eyes and deteriorated in 2 eyes. The frequency of iritic attacks dec-reased after the surgery in 8 eyes and remain-ed the same in 5 eyes.
