The Effects of HOD-27 on the Asthenopia

I．緒言

　眼精疲労Asthenopiaは1843年にSir Willi—am Mackenzieが命名した症候群で，視矇，流涙，頭痛を主徴とする。原因としては，眼自体の病気のほか，患者の内因的，外因的な環境条件があげられている。

　内因的，外因的に大いに左右される病気で著明なものに糖尿病がある。これは戦争が起こると少なくなる。逆に平和が続くと増加する。また，経済不況の時代では，脚気と夜盲症が，臨床家のカルテの一部を専有する。

A clinical study was conducted over the pos-sible beneficial effect of methylated vitamin B₁₂ (HOD-27) (5-6-dimethylbenzimidazolyl coba-mide methyl) on 58 cases with asthenopic com-plaints. Patients were given the preparation perorally at the daily dosis of 750 to 1,500 mcg.

The effects after treatment were classified as excellent in 7 cases, good in 18 cases and fair in further 18 cases. The treatment was appa-rently futile in 15 cases.

Dark adaptation studies were conducted in 25 asthenopic patients and the differences were plotted before and after HOD-27 treatment.
