Evaluation of principles and animal experi-ments have been conducted with a newly-deve-loped Helium-Neon gas laser photocoagulator. The He-Ne gas laser has the advantage of its compact size, the stability of the emitted laser and the high energy output. The wavelength lies at 630mμ which possesses the transmission-absorption coefficient (TA by Gaeraets) of about 80%.

Effective photocoagulation of the fundus has been conducted in rabbit eyes with the use of He-Ne gas laser of 2 meters in length with an exposure time of one second. The He-Ne laser can possibly be used as an alternative for the standard xenon coagulator.
