I．はじめに

　Fiber Laser （ファイバー・レーザー）とは，Laser （レーザー）とFiber Optics （ファイバーオプティクス）の原理をたくみに組合わせたもので，ファイバーの内部に発生したレーザー光を，フレキシブルなファイバーオプティクスを通して伝達し，各種の組織を光凝固しようとするものである。

　レーザーを利用した光凝固機については，既に著者^1）及びその他^2）により，その実験例が発表されている。この瞳孔を通して行う光凝固術は非観血的手術であり，その適用範囲はかなり広い。しかし眼透光体に混濁がある時，眼底のごく周辺部を治療する場合，又は色素の少い部分等には，その応用が困難なことがある。

The principles and the operational chracte ristics of a fiber laser suitable for application to retinal surgery have been described. Clini-cal and histologic studies with rabbit eyes indicate that this instrument is capable of producing desirable chorioretinal reactions. The instrument has great potential as an adjunct to photocoagulation and as a possible replacement of electrosurgical device in retinal surgery
