臨床面から見た最近の眼鏡レンズの検討

Recent Advances in Spectacle Lenses

I．緒言

　普通の眼鏡は，コンタクトレンズと違つて，掛けたり，外したりが誠に容易，簡便で，多くの人に愛用されている。しかしあからさまに顔に掛けるという条件は避けることが出来ない。眼鏡を掛けているという事は一目瞭然分つてしまうし，その人の顔の感じもある程度変えてしまう。これは宿命的な特徴である。そこで眼鏡として十分な機能を備えている他に，見た感じも出来るだけ好ましく保ちたい願望が生じて来る訳である。

　私共は，昭和40年末の逓信医学誌上に，眼鏡と顔との関連について論文を書いた。そこでは主として眼鏡枠を中心にして，これと顔との関係を美学的見地から論じた。今回は眼鏡の働きをつかさどる本命である眼鏡レンズを主題にして，これと顔や眼との関係，更に眼鏡レンズの最近の進歩，変革等について色々申し述べて見たいと思う。

Various topics are presented concerning the commercially available spectacle lenses. There is a definite tendency for the spectacle lenses to assume flatter basic curvature which made it possible to be fitted in bigger spectacle fra-mes and to appear less distorted on external view. This has been due to the less rigid in-terpretation of the center of rotation of the eyeball as defined by Gullstrand in 1901. Other features as coating of the lenses, hardening processes, colored lenses, bifocals, elimination of concentric lines observed by a third person on lateral view and distorted outlook of wea-rer's eye are discussed.
