Abstract. Purpose:A case report that received replacement of intraocular lens(IOL)for pronounced surface light scattering without ocular disease. Case:A 82-year-old man presented with blurring and light scattering in the right eye. He had received cataract surgery with insertion of IOL 15 years before. Findings:Corrected visual acuity was 1.2 right and 1.5 left. Both eyes were free of organic disorders. Both eyes were pseudophakic, with acrylic IOL in the right eye and silicone IOL in the left eye. By slit-lamp microscopy, IOL in the right eye showed pronounced surface light scattering. The right eye was treated by removal of IOL and insertion of another acrylic IOL. The surgery was followed by improved contrast sensitivity and reduction of blurring and light scattering, although he reported a difference in whiteness between his right and left eye. Conclusion:Replacement of IOL resulted improved contrast sensitivity and subjective symptoms. However, the degree of improvement was milder than in ocular fundus disease patients that underwent lens exchange.
