Abstract Purpose:This study investigated the effect of astigmatism correction using high-water-content hydrophobic intraocular lens(IOL)prospectively. The influence of IOL misalignment, tilt, and decentration and posterior corneal astigmatism was also examined.

Method:In 47 eyes of 47 subjects with corneal astigmatism, CNW0T IOLs(Alcon, Ft Worth, USA)were implanted through superior corneoscleral incisions, and placed under surgical guidance. At 3 months postoperatively, uncorrected visual acuity and refractive cylinder were examined. Axis position, decentration, and tilting of the IOL and posterior corneal astigmatism were measured using CASIA2 anterior-segment optical coherence tomography(Tomey, Nagoya). The influences of misalignment, decentration, tilt, and posterior corneal astigmatism on refractive cylinder was examined.

Results:Implanted toric models included T3(4 eyes), T4(16 eyes), T5(14 eyes), T6(5 eyes), T7(7 eyes), and T8(1 eye), while the mean refractive cylinder was 0.69±0.52 D. Mean postoperative uncorrected visual acuity was 0.05±0.16 logMAR, and no difference was found among T3 to T7(p=0.09). There were no significant influence on the refractive cylinder(p>0.50).

Conclusion:This high-water-content hydrophobic IOL effectively corrected corneal astigmatism without any influence due to misalignment, decentration, tilt, or posterior corneal astigmatism.
