Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of nasolacrimal probing for congenital nasolacrimal obstruction in infants with or without facial malformation. Cases and Method:This study was made on 69 sides of 63 infants treated by nasolacrimal probing. The series comprised 36 male and 27 female infants. The age ranged from 3 to 35 months, average 11.1 months. Facial malformation was present in 7 sides of 4 infants. Results:Probing was effective in 3 out of 7 sides(43%)in cases with facial malformation and in 60 out of 62 sides(97%)in cases without. The difference was significant(p=0.001). In cases without facial malformation, probing had to be performed at an average of 1.58 times when aged less than 13 months and 1.60 times when aged over 13 months. The difference was not significant. Spontaneous cure set in 12 sides of 12 cases. Conclusion:Outcome of probing was poor in cases with facial malformation. The age of treatment did not affect the rate of success. Cases of spontaneous cure were present.
