Abstract. Purpose:To report the current status of optic aids for near vision prescribed to low-vision persons with previous cataract surgery. Cases and Methods:This survey was made on 62 persons who had cataract surgery and who received low-vision care. They were analyzed regarding visual acuity in the better-seeing eye, refraction, and prescription of optic aids for near vision. Results:Twenty persons(32.3%)had received prescription of optic aids for near visison. The other forty-two(67.7%)had not. Retinitis pigmentosa was the leading cause of poor vision in both groups. Significant differences were present between the two groups regarding age and refraction. No significant difference was present between the two groups regarding visual acuity. Conclusion:There was a tendency for optic aids to be prescribed in persons with hyperopia. Persons in more advanced age and with poorer vision tended not to receive optic aids.
