Abstract. Purpose:To propose a modification of functional independence measure to be used for persons with visual disabilities. Cases and Method:This study was made on 155 persons who had disabilities in visual acuity or visual field and who were cared for in rehabilitation centers. They were aged 55.5 years in average. Each person was asked by two interviewers regarding activities in locations familiar or foreign to him or her. Results:Persons with visual disabilities felt considerably greater difficulties in walking on foot or on staircases in locations foreign than familiar to them. Corrected visual acuity and field in the better seeing eye showed high correlations with activity in daily life. Conclusion:Difficulties in daily life were closely correlated with visual acuity and visual field in persons with visual difficulties.
