Abstract. Purpose:To present an epidemiological review of endogenous uveitis at Yokohama City University Hospital. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on patients who first visited us during 2 years through March 2011. Findings were compared with similar reports in the past. Results:Number of uveitis patients totaled 427 cases. The series comprised 212 males and 215 females. The age averaged 51.5 years when first seen. Uveitis was unilateral in 43% and bilateral in 57% of cases. Sarcoidosis was the most frequent at 10.5%,followed by scleritis 9.1%,Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada(VKH)disease 8.2%,Behçet's disease 7.0%,and acute anterior uveitis 6.1%. Uveitis could not be classified in 35.1% of cases,45% of whom clinical features simulated sarcoidosis. Conclusion:Compared with our survey in 1990,there was an increase of sarcoidosis and masquerade syndrome and a decrease in VKH and Behçet's disease. Incidence of three most frequent entities and of unclassified cases were similar to those of nationwide survey in 2003.
