Abstract. Purpose:To report the long-term changes in aberration and contrast sensitivity after implantation of spheric and aspheric intraocular lenses(IOLs). Cases and Method:This prospective study was made on 32 eyes of 16 patients who received cataract surgery. Each patient was implanted with spherical IOL in one eye and aspherical IOL in the fellow eye. The series comprised 5 males and 11 females. The age averaged 76 years. They were examined for aberration and constrast sensitivity one month and 4 years after surgery. Results:Total higher-order,spherical and coma aberrations were significantly smaller in eyes implanted with aspherical than spherical IOL one month after surgery. Spherical aberrations were smaller in eyes implanted with aspherical than spherical IOL 4 years after surgery. Conclusion:Spherical aberrations are smaller in eyes implanted with aspherical than spherical IOL after surgery on a long-term basis.
