Abstract. Purpose:To report the effect of cataract on thickness of ganglion cell complex(GCC)and signal strength index(SSI)measured by spectral domain optical coherence tomography(OCT). Cases and Method:Thickness of GCC was measured in 22 eyes before and cataract surgery. The age averaged 75.2±5.9 years. Results:Thickness of GCC averaged 82.1μm before and 98.0μm after surgery. The difference was significant(p<0.0001). There was a significant correlation between lens opacity score and difference in SSI(r=0.47,p<0.02). There was a significant correlation between differences in SSI and thickness of GCC(r=0.70,p<0.0001). Conclusion:Measured values of GCC and SSI by OCT tend to be smaller in eyes with cataract.
