Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome and patient satisfaction following bilateral implantation of multifocal intraocular lens(IOL). Cases and Method:This study was made on 150 eyes of 75 patients who received cataract surgery. The age ranged from 60 to 78 years, average 64 years. Refractive IOL was inserted in 42 cases who preferred vision in intermediate range. Diffractive IOL was inserted in 33 cases who preferred near vision. Cases were followed up for 3 months. Patient satisfaction was evaluated by questionnaire. Results:There was no difference between refractive and diffractive IOL regarding unaided visual acuity in the near and far distance. Visual acuity was better for intermediate distance in eyes inserted with refractive than diffractive IOL(p<0.05). Patients expressed more satisfaction regarding near vision and night-time glare when inserted with diffractive IOL(p<0.01). Conclusion:Proper selection of multifocal IOL by asking the patients' need is a key factor for outcome of surgery and patient satisfaction.
