Abstract. Background:Lateral orbitotomy,or Krönlein surgery, needs closure of the lateral orbital defect using a piece of homologous bone. Purpose:To report a case of orbital tumor treated by Krönlein surgery using a bioabsorbable plate. Case:An 80-year-old male presented with swelling of left orbit. He had received excision of right lacrimal gland tumor 13 years before that proved to be malignant lymphoma. Findings:The left eye showed proptosis with a tumor upper temporal to the orbit. He was treated by lateral orbitotomy, removal of orbital tumor, and closure of bone defect by bioabsorbable polymer plate. The removed tumor proved to be malignant lymphoma. He has been doing well without inflammation or infection for 2 years until present. Conclusion:Krönlein surgery using a bioabsorbable plate was safe and effective in a case of malignant lymphoma of the orbit.
