Abstract. Purpose:To report the retinal thickness in the macular area in normal eyes and in eyes with current or past amblyopia. Cases and Method:This study was made on 67 eyes in infants and children aged between 3 and 13 years, average 5.6 years. The series comprised 22 normal eyes,25 eyes with history of amblyopia, and 20 eyes with amblyopia. The refraction ranged from +2 to +5 diopters. Thickness of the fovea and surrounding area was measured using an optical coherence tomography(OCT). Results:There was no difference in refraction among the 3 groups. Thickness of the foveal minimum, fovea and inner retina area was statistically the same among the 3 groups. Conclusion:There is no difference in retinal thickness in the macular area among normal eyes, eyes with history of amblyopia, and eyes with amblyopia except the outer retina area.
