Abstract. Purpose:To assess the minimum visual field defect in order to maintain quality of life(QOL)in elderly patients with normal-tension glaucoma(NTG). Cases and Method:This study was made on 231 NTG patients aged 65 years or over. Another group of 67 patients with normal visual acuity and field served as control. QOL was evaluated by questionnaire using 25-item Visual Functioning Questionnaire. Visual field was assessed by mean deviation of Humphrey perimetry. Results:QOL decreased significantly when the visual field decreased by -6 dB in the better eye and by -12 dB in the worse eye. QOL decreased by impaired visual field in the lower hemisphere in the better eye. Best location model showed decreased QOL when visual field decreased by -9 dB or more in the lower hemisphere. Conclusion:In order to maintain QOL of NTG patients with advanced age,it is necessary to keep visual field less than -6 dB in the better eye and over -12 dB in the worse eye.
