Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of proliferative diabetic retinopathy associated with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada(VKH)disease. Case:A 41-year-old male was referred to us for bilateral vitreous hemorrhage. He had had diabetes mellitus in the past 20 years with poor blood sugar control. He had received photocoagulation 4 years before. Findings:Visual acuity was 0.1 in either eye. Both eyes showed signs of iritis, posterior synechia and rubeosis iridis. Extensive bullous retinal detachment was detected during vitrectomy on the right eye 2 weeks later. The retina became reattached under silicone oil. The left eye received the same surgery 5 days later. Intraocular inflammation subsided after subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide. He is doing well 6 months later with visual acuity of 0.2 right and 0.4 left. Conclusion:This case illustrates that VKH disease may develop in a patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
