Abstract. Purpose:To report the incidence and implication of systemic allergic disorders in patients with allergic conjunctival diseases(ACD). Cases and Method:This study was made on 1,079 patients who were diagnosed with ACD during the past 19 months. The series comprised seasonal allergic conjunctivitis 876 cases, perennial allergic conjunctivitis 115 cases, atopic keratoconjunctivitis 47 cases, and vernal conjunctivitis 41 cases. Results:Atopic dermatitis was present in 71% of cases of vernal conjunctivitis and in all cases of atopic keratoconjunctivitis. Bronchial asthma was present in 83% of cases of vernal conjunctivitis. Allergic rhinitis was frequent in all the 4 subgroups of ACD. Severity of conjunctivitis was independent of presence or absence of systemic allergic disorders. Conclusion:Incidence of systemic allergic disorders is variable according to the type of ACD. Its presence does not affect the severity of conjunctivitis.
