Abstract. Background:It is difficult to differentiate conjunctival papilloma from squamous cell carcinoma. Purpose:To report a case of conjunctival papilloma with human papillomavirus detected from the lesion. Case:A 34-year-old male presented with a tumor in his right eye since 2 months before. Findings:The right eye showed a papillomatous pedunculated tumor of 12 mm in diameter in the nasal sector of bulbar conjunctiva. Four similar lesions were present in the bulbar conjunctiva. The dissected tumor was tentatively diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma by rapid intraoperative histopathological study. It was later diagnosed with mild to moderate differentiated papilloma. The specimen was positive for low-risk human papillomavirus by DNA hybridization. Conclusion:Conjunctival papilloma may be due to infection by low-risk human papillomavirus.
