Abstract. Purpose:To report the effect of intravitreal injection of bevacizumab for age-related macular degeneration(AMD)in eyes with good visual acuity. Cases and Method:This study was made on 8 eyes of 8 patients of AMD. The series comprised 4 males and 4 females. The age ranged from 51 to 75, average 68 years. Six eyes had polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy and 2 had AMD in its narrow sense. All the eyes had visual acuity of 0.5 or better. Each eye received intraviteral injection of 1.25 mg bevacizumab. Results:During the follow-up for 6 months or longer, 7 eyes showed decrease in retinal detachment or detachment of retinal pigment epithelium when evaluated by fluorescein angiography or optical coherence tomography. Choroidal neovascularization and polypoidal lesion persisted in all the eyes. Conclusion:Intravitreal injection of bevacizumab is safe and potentially effective for AMD with good visual acuity.
