Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of analysis of the corneal iron lines in the Japanese by quantitating the shape and location using a slit-lamp videophotography. Object and Method:This study was made on 4,043 patients in an eye clinic comprising 1,927 males and 2,116 females. The cornea was documented by a CCD camera attached to a slit-lamp microscope. The photograph was printed as a panorama. Location and length of the corneal iron line was converted into numerical terms. Results:Hudson-Stähli's line was present in 92 persons(2.3%). The corneal iron line associated with diseases including pterygium was present in 17 persons(0.4%). It was associated with corneal nebule in 63 persons(1.7%). The corneal iron line grew or declined in some eyes. Conclusion:Corneal iron line can be analyzed statistically and longitudinally by quantitating the photographs. Corneal iron line may be pathological or physiological. It may grow or decline in some cases.
