Abstract. Purpose:To report the incidence of iron line in the cornea in Japanese patients. Cases and Method:This study was made on 3,008 outpatients. The series comprised 1,395 males and 1,613 females. The cornea was video-photographed by a CCD camera attatched to a slitlamp biomicroscope(ZEISS SL130). Results:Typical Hudson-Staehli's line was present in 36 males and 26 females. Atypical line with corneal opacity was present in 49 males and 11 females. Stocker's line was present in 4 males and 2 females. Fleischer's ring present in 3 males. Corneal iron line was thus present in 131 patients(4.4%). The incidence increased with advance of age. Conclusion:Corneal iron line in the Japanese differed from that in Caucasians because of very low incidence, preponderance of males, and tendency to increase along with age.
