Abstract. Purpose:To compare higher-order aberrations in eyes implanted with intraocular lens(IOL)of different material and designs. Material and Method:This study was made on IOL-implanted 165 eyes. The series comprised 49 eyes implanted with acryl IOL(SA60AT), 29 eyes implanted with acryl IOL(MA30BA), 26 eyes implanted with silicone IOL(ClariFlex), and 51 eyes implanted with aspheric IOL(KS-3Ai). All the eyes were examined by a wave-front analyzer 6 months after surgery. Results:Spherical aberration was significantly smaller in eyes implanted with aspherical than spherical IOLs. Silicone IOLs showed smaller spherical aberrations than acrylic IOLs but no difference in coma aberration and total higher-order aberrations. Conclusion:Measurement of higher-order aberrations in the eye and the cornea may enable more precise evaluation of optical properties of implanted IOLs.
