　3年3か月の期間内に眼脂のある入院患者338人644眼につき，眼脂を培養した。441眼から572株の細菌が検出され，陽性率は68.5％であった。陽性率と同定された株数は，1998年度では70.1％と218株，99年度では72.1％と200株であり，新病棟に移転した2000年度では58.2％と105株であった。陽性率と同定された株数が新病棟に移転した後に減少したのは，病院の環境改善が影響していると考えられた。

We cultured eye discharges in 644 eyes of 338 hospitalized patients during the past 3 years 3 months. A to-tal of 572 bacterial strains were isolated from 441 eyes. The positive rate was 68.5%. The positive rate and number of isolated strains were: 70.1% and 218 strains in 1998, 72.1% and 200 strains in 1999, and 58.2% and 105 strains in 2000 when the hospital moved to a new building. The observed reduction in the positive rate and number of isolated strains in 2000 seemed to be due to improved environments of the hospital.
