Abstract. Purpose:To report the current status of eyeglass prescriptions that needed modifications. Objects and Method:A total of 39,290 prescriptions were issued by two ophthalmological institutions during a 7-month period. Both sexes were equally represented in the series. Their age averaged about 40 years. Eyeglasses were for distant vision in 70% of cases. Results:A total of 1,193 prescriptions(3.0%)needed modifications within 6 months. There was no gender-related differences. Modification was needed for eyeglasses for near and bifocals than those for distant vision. Modification was more frequent for persons in low-teens and septuagenarians. Conclusion:Eyeglass prescriptions had to be modified in about 3% of instances. The causes differed depending on the age.
