Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of spotty depigmentation of the choroid after herpes zoster ophthalmicus. Case and Findings:A 71-year-old woman presented with headache and acute pain in her right eye. Her right eye had been treated capsular glaucoma since 4 years before. Her corrected visual acuity was 0.7 right and 1.0 left. The intraocular pressure(IOP)was 42mmHg right and 12mmHg left. The right eye showed signs of acute iritis. Herpes zoster was present in the first and second branch of right trigeminal nerve. Her circulating blood showed very high titers for zoster and simple herpes virus. Clinical Course:Systemic corticosteroid and acyclovir was followed by prompt IOP normalization. Signs of iritis subsided one month later. Sporadic yellow and ill-defined spots developed 6 months later in the right eye. Fluorescein angiography showed moderate dye leakage around the spots. The spots became reddish after 4 years of follow-up. Conclusion:The depigmented spots are interpreted as choroidopathy secondary to herpes zoster infection.
